(Ottawa, ON) April 21, 2023 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful to La Cigale for their generosity and support. Thanks to their donation of $1780, the LHF will be able to continue to develop education materials and exhibitions that speak to the rich histories and lives of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, as well as the abuses and impacts Indigenous Peoples and communities have faced as a result of the Residential School System in order to foster Reconciliation in Canada.

La Cigale is a homemade ice cream shop located in Chelsea Quebec across from the Gatineau park Visitor Centre. La Cigale offers a rotation of almost 70 different flavours over the summer. Their flavours do change often throughout the season, but you can be sure to always find a carefully curated selection of some classic flavours (like Vanilla and Chocolate), their famous specialties (like the Raspberry White Chocolate), unique creations (such as the Chocolate Guinness) and vegan options (like the Mango sorbet and the Banana Oreo dairy-free ice cream).

“La Cigale and our team wanted to recognize and show support for the efforts made by those who are helping to bring about Reconciliation by sharing tips received on Canada Day.  The community must have also wanted to show their support because they were very generous tippers that day,” said Chris Kaarsberg, owner of La Cigale.

“Change must come from the people of Canada working with Indigenous Peoples to build relationships based on equity, respect and trust. This type of action is part of the actions that people can take to help foster Reconciliation in Canada. The LHF is moved and grateful for this growing support,” said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.

La FAE dispose de plus de 25 expositions accessibles au public et travaille à rendre ses autres expositions disponibles en ligne. La Fondation possède également des programmes d'enseignement de la maternelle à la 12e année et pour les adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activités visant à sensibiliser les Canadiens à l'histoire autochtone et à l'histoire commune des pensionnats et des externats, de la Rafle des années 60, etc. La FAE travaille à développer l'empathie et la compréhension afin d'éliminer le racisme à l’égard des peuples autochtones.
