The Legacy of Hope Foundation’s Mitten Fundraiser

Each pair of mittens is made using traditional materials and methods. One pair is made of seal skin and fox fur by Inuit artist Lizzy Flaherty. There are two more pairs made of deer hide and rabbit fur which were created by Sayisi Dene First Nations artist Shannon Macmillan. The last pair is made of deer leather trimmed with wolf fur and was created by Mi’gmag artist, Jamie Condo Metallic. These mittens feature a hand-beaded Eight Point Star, which has symbolized “unity” for centuries among the Mi’gmaq.

Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel said, “We work with Indigenous communities and we are fortunate to meet so many talented Indigenous artisans. By raffling off some of their work to fundraise we can also introduce the artists’ work to a wider audience. These beautiful hand-crafted mittens will keep your hands warm and by supporting educational resources to end racism, you will warm your heart.”
