The Legacy of Hope Foundation is Grateful to Algonquin College’s Professor David Solomon, all Students, and Staff for their Support

(Ottawa, ON) September 27, 2023 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful for the support and generosity of spirit demonstrated by Algonquin College’s Project Management Course’s students and staff. Thanks to this donation, the LHF will continue to produce educational resources and exhibitions that speak to the rich histories and lives of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, as well as the abuses and impacts Indigenous Peoples have faced as a result of their experiences in Residential/Day School, and within the Child Welfare System.

Professor David Solomon of Algonquin College’s Project Management Course has been organizing events to raise funds for the Legacy of Hope Foundation. Over the past 3 semesters, his classes raised over $8000! We are grateful to Algonquin College, Professor David Solomon and all the students that have made this happen.

“I’m truly happy to support LHF over the past 3 terms, giving students a chance to apply their project management skills, while raising funds and spreading awareness about the Legacy of Hope Foundation. I’m excited to run more fundraising projects over the fall 2023 semester,” said David Solomon, Professor at Algonquin College, School of Business.

“We are so thankful for these types of initiatives because it affirms the belief that when Canadians learn the truth about Indigenous history and our shared history, and the existing impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples, they do want to act positively to help and to be allies. Indigenous Peoples need Canadians to work with us and this group at Algonquin has found ways to demonstrate their willingness and action to foster Reconciliation. At the LHF, we work with passion and purpose, and when we see this type of dedication and commitment in others, we are hopeful that together we can build a country based on equity, dignity and respect for all,” said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 23 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate Canadians about the history and existing impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples caused by their experiences as children living through Residential and/ or Day School, or within the Child Welfare System. We do this to address ongoing discrimination and injustice to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.

The LHF has more than 30 educational exhibitions that inform people about Indigenous history through art and other mediums that are free to borrow, and some exhibitions are available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 for teachers and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Research, Communication materials and Podcasts, Workshops and Training for businesses, all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples. We also offer Cultural Reclamation Workshops, share Best Practices about Language Revitalization and Food Sovereignty, etc. along with other tools to support hope and healing for Survivors and families.
