The Legacy of Hope Foundation Acknowledges the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation

(Ottawa, ON) May 18, 2023 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful to the support and generosity of spirit demonstrated by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) Thanks to their recent donation of $5000, the LHF will continue to produce education materials and exhibitions that speak to the rich histories and lives of Indigenous Peoples, as well as the impacts experienced by generations as a result of time in Residential or Day School, the Child Welfare System and due to other colonial acts of oppression.

“The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) is honoured to continue to support the Legacy of Hope Foundation,” said OSSTF/FEESO President, Karen Littlewood. “OSSTF/FEESO is committed to Reconciliation and educating and raising awareness about the history of colonialism in this country, and the impact that Colonialism continues to have on Indigenous Peoples through collective and intergenerational trauma. We are also proud to support the development of materials that showcase Indigenous excellence and the remarkable achievements of Indigenous Peoples in the face of centuries of systemic oppression and discrimination.”

“The LHF has been consistently working with Teachers to develop resources for children of all ages so that these future leaders will have learned about Indigenous history, its impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples, and have positive solutions on how to improve the socio-economic factors to create a brighter tomorrow for future generations. I am so happy and grateful for the ongoing support of these teachers in helping to foster Reconciliation in Canada,” said Teresa Edwards, LHF Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 23 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate Canadians about Indigenous history and existing impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples from their time in Residential and Day School and the Child Welfare System. The LHF works to encourage people to address ongoing discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.

The LHF has close to 30 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow and is working on making exhibitions available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, and Podcasts all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Child Welfare System, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples.
