(Ottawa, ON) May 1, 2023 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful to the support and generosity of spirit demonstrated by the staff and students of Algonquin College’s Applied Project Management course. Thanks to this donation, the LHF will continue to produce education materials and exhibitions that speak to the rich histories and lives of Indigenous Peoples, as well as the impacts experienced by generations as a result of time in Residential or Day School, the Child Welfare System and due to other colonial acts of oppression.

Professor David Solomon of Algonquin College partnered with the LHF to provide students with work-integrated learning opportunities. His project management students supported the Legacy of Hope Foundation by planning and executing their own fundraising projects as part of their MGT4209 Applied Project Management capstone course. The Algonquin College Project Management graduate certificate students have raised a total of $6,028!

“Running applied charity projects gives my students the chance to practice hands-on project management skills while having a positive impact on the community. Truly grateful for the relationship we’ve built, I hope to run more LHF fundraising projects starting May 2023,” said David Solomon, Project Management Professor.

“This kind of initiative gives me so much hope for future generations because these youth will go on to be the decision-makers of tomorrow and having them know about Indigenous history and choose to take this positive action in response is wonderful! Thank you, thank you, thank you to the students and to Professor David Solomon for giving his students this opportunity,” said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 23 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate Canadians about Indigenous history and existing impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples from their time in Residential and Day School and the Child Welfare System. The LHF works to encourage people to address ongoing discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.

The LHF has close to 30 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow and is working on making exhibitions available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, and Podcasts all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Child Welfare System, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples.
