The Roots and Hoots podcast has been a digital media project of the Legacy of Hope Foundation since 2020. Initially conceived of as a way to continue community discussions and storytelling during the COVID pandemic, host Gordon Spence takes listeners on a learning journey. The Roots and Hoots podcast shares the perspectives of Residential School Survivors, Sixties Scoop Survivors, Survivors of the Inuit High Arctic Relocation, community leaders, artists and allies who are setting remarkable examples in resilience, strength, courage, and care.<\/p>\n

Art is a means of storytelling beyond words and has the ability to convey truths and promote healing. The Snow Goose Gallery is intimately connected to this truth. Located at 83 Sparks Street in the Nation\u2019s Capital of Ottawa, the Snow Goose Gallery prides itself on purchasing arts and crafts directly from artists and has maintained this model since 1963. Snow Goose Gallery is a family-owned business that specializes in First Nations and Inuit art.<\/p>\n

\u201cLHF is grateful to The Snow Goose Gallery for their sponsorship of the Roots and Hoots podcast. Since 2020, our podcast project has served as a platform to share the powerful narratives of Residential School Survivors, Sixties Scoop Survivors, community members, elders, artists and allies. Since time immemorial, storytelling has been vital to cultural continuity and we are proud to provide a platform for those willing to share their stories and those who are eager to hear them. The Snow Goose Gallery has been supporting Indigenous artists since 1963 and we are happy to acknowledge their dedication to cultural enrichment for the last 60 years.\u201d Said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at LHF<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 23 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Child Welfare System on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage Canadians to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The LHF has close to 30 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow and is working on making exhibitions available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, 2 Podcast series, all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Child Welfare System, and other colonial acts of oppression.. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate ongoing racism against Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n
