(Ottawa, ON) October 4, 2023<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0The Legacy of Hope Foundation extends heartfelt congratulations to Wab Kinew on his election as the Premier of Manitoba, a significant historical moment as he becomes the 1st First Nation premier in Canadian history.<\/p>\n

LHF would like to acknowledge this historically monumental victory and acknowledge Wab Kinew\u2019s dedication to advancing Indigenous issues and advancing Reconciliation efforts. Wab\u2019s commitment to fostering unity among communities is helping build a better future for the people of Manitoba and inspiring Indigenous youth to achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n

LHF Board President, Adam North Piegan said, \u201cWe are filled with immense pride as we celebrate Wab\u2019s historic victory, a sign of progress and a symbol of change in our country. His election as Premier represents a breakthrough in barriers faced by Indigenous Peoples and plants a seed of hope and inspiration for future generations of Indigenous youth across Turtle Island. LHF is pleased to support his success and looks forward to a future where more Indigenous voices are heard, recognized and respected within government and leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWab Kinew\u2019s election signals a new era in Canadian political history, highlighting that the voices of Indigenous Peoples are integral to the fabric of this country. As he steps into this pivotal role, we are certain that his leadership will continue to unite communities and foster an environment where Reconciliation and healing pave the way for a more just and equitable future,\u201d said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at LHF.<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 23 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate Canadians about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Child Welfare System on Indigenous Survivors, their families, and communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF encourages people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The LHF has more than 30 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow, and LHF is currently working on making these exhibitions available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, Podcasts, all designed to educate Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other acts of colonization. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
