LHF Commends the BC Government\u2019s Declaration Act Action Plan to Move Forward on Implementing UNDRIP<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

La Fondation autochtone de l\u2019espoir (FAE) f\u00e9licite le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique (BC) pour ses efforts engag\u00e9s et soutenus afin de s'assurer que sa province a pleinement mis en \u0153uvre la D\u00e9claration des Nations Unies sur les droits des peuples autochtones (DNUDPA). La DNUDPA est un document international qui vise \u00e0 garantir la protection des droits des Autochtones, notamment ceux qui entourent la culture, la langue, l'utilisation des terres et l'autogouvernance. En 2019, la Colombie-Britannique est devenue la premi\u00e8re juridiction au Canada \u00e0 l\u00e9gif\u00e9rer sur la DNUDPA, avec sa Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act<\/em>. Cependant, cette d\u00e9cision historique a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 entach\u00e9e par des critiques selon lesquelles le gouvernement n'avait pas vraiment honor\u00e9 l'esprit de la DNUDPA, notamment par sa gestion des manifestations contre les pipelines. En r\u00e9ponse, le mois dernier, le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique a annonc\u00e9 son Declaration Act Action Plan<\/em> quinquennal, qui vise \u00e0 garantir que la DNUDPA soit respect\u00e9e et appuy\u00e9e dans toute la province.<\/p>\n

The LHF is pleased that the BC Government continues to build upon their landmark efforts to secure a better future for Indigenous Peoples across the province. By safeguarding UNDRIP, a document that recognizes and advances Indigenous rights, the government is also supporting Reconciliation and the establishment of a true Nation-to-Nation relationship. Notably, these efforts also align with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission\u2019s 43rd and 44th Appels \u00e0 l'action<\/em>, which call upon the Canadian Government to adopt and implement UNDRIP as part of their Reconciliation framework, and to create a national action plan to meet the objectives of UNDRIP, respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the BC Government has done and continues to do with regards to implementing the UNDRIP is a historic step within Canada. Integrating the UNDRIP into the legal system will assist with decolonization efforts and create more opportunities, programs, policies and legislation that will support equitable outcomes for Indigenous Peoples. We are hopeful that this important step inspires the rest of Canada to follow suit and paves the way for all jurisdictions within Canada to commit to Reconciliation and the protection of Indigenous rights in a similar way,\u201d said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF.<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 22 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

La FAE dispose de plus de 25 expositions accessibles au public et travaille \u00e0 rendre ses autres expositions disponibles en ligne. La Fondation poss\u00e8de \u00e9galement des programmes d'enseignement de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e et pour les adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activit\u00e9s visant \u00e0 sensibiliser les Canadiens \u00e0 l'histoire autochtone et \u00e0 l'histoire commune des pensionnats et des externats, de la Rafle des ann\u00e9es 60, etc. La FAE travaille \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper l'empathie et la compr\u00e9hension afin d'\u00e9liminer le racisme \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des peuples autochtones.<\/p>\n<\/div>
