(Ottawa, ON) December 3, 2021 \u2013<\/strong> The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) would like to acknowledge and honour everyone who contributed to the Local Food by Local Youth<\/em> (LFLY) project over the past year. The purpose of the LFLY project was to work together to learn how to create a youth-led local food system using Indigenous and non-Indigenous Knowledge and methods that promote food sovereignty. This project grew out LHF\u2019s mandate to promote healing and rejuvenation of Indigenous communities harmed by the impacts of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other colonial policies.<\/p>\n

Mis sur pied avant la COVID-19, le projet a d\u00fb faire face \u00e0 de nombreux changements entra\u00een\u00e9s par la pand\u00e9mie. Malgr\u00e9 les restrictions et les confinements successifs, ce projet a pu se poursuivre gr\u00e2ce aux efforts et \u00e0 la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance de nombreuses personnes. Au cours de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape du projet ALJL, des gardiens du savoir traditionnel et des experts en culture se sont associ\u00e9s \u00e0 un groupe de jeunes b\u00e9n\u00e9voles des Premi\u00e8res Nations Chippewas de la Thames (PNCTM). Ces rencontres se sont tenues en ligne et comprenaient des le\u00e7ons d'introduction et des conseils sur diverses techniques de plantation, l'utilisation et le soin des semences autochtones et patrimoniales, la sant\u00e9 et la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration du sol, la production de compost et d'engrais naturels, la r\u00e9colte d'aliments sauvages, ainsi que des informations sur l'hydroponie comme m\u00e9thode alternative pour soutenir la production alimentaire durable \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n

The second stage of the project focused on what knowledge and practices were most relevant to the community and how to start applying it. This took place at COTTFN\u2019s Antler River Elementary School and resulted in setting up hydroponics inside and outside of the school, planting Indigenous and heirloom seeds, utilizing raised garden beds built by Indigenous youth, and assembling a geodesic growing dome to support the continued growth of food year-round.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegardless of being unable to meet in-person, a vast amount of knowledge was generously shared with the youth throughout the project. The culmination of everything learned has led to the release of a final project piece, a newly available free resource called: Souverainet\u00e9 alimentaire : Un guide pour la jeunesse autochtone<\/strong><\/em>. This guide contains many of the tips, teachings, and takeaways from the experts who generously shared their knowledge and methods with us throughout the project sessions. This guide is now available to download or order for free on the LHF website. The work of this project wouldn’t have been possible without the time and dedication shared by the volunteers, leaders, teachers, and experts who took part in the LFLY project, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them here,\u201d said the Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel, Teresa Edwards.<\/p>\n

La FAE est particuli\u00e8rement reconnaissante envers COTTFN, un groupe de personnes incroyables qui ont vu la promesse de ce nouveau projet et ont donn\u00e9 leur temps pour le r\u00e9aliser. Merci \u00e0 Kingson Huff, Meaghan MacLeod et Alanis Deleary, dont la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 et le leadership ont permis de rassembler et de souder tous les acteurs du projet, malgr\u00e9 les difficult\u00e9s et les revers caus\u00e9s par la pand\u00e9mie. La FAE remercie \u00e9galement tous les jeunes, dont la participation \u00e0 ce projet a inspir\u00e9 le d\u00e9veloppement d'un nouveau syst\u00e8me alimentaire local que les \u00e9tudiants peuvent continuer \u00e0 utiliser et \u00e0 apprendre dans leur communaut\u00e9. La FAE est extr\u00eamement reconnaissante envers Vick Slay (directrice de l'\u00e9cole primaire Antler River), dont le partenariat dans le cadre de ce projet a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un espace o\u00f9 les jeunes peuvent continuer \u00e0 apprendre, \u00e0 grandir et \u00e0 appliquer leurs visions de la souverainet\u00e9 alimentaire autochtone.<\/p>\n

La FAE reconna\u00eet et remercie les conf\u00e9renciers et les partenariats avec Sovereign Seeds, Canadian Bushcraft et ZipGrow, dont les connaissances et la pr\u00e9sence sur ce projet ont fait toute la diff\u00e9rence. La FAE vous remercie pour vos chaleureuses contributions. Sachez que votre d\u00e9vouement n'est pas pass\u00e9 inaper\u00e7u. Ils ont travaill\u00e9 avec l'\u00e9quipe de la FAE pour trouver des moyens de morceler la r\u00e9alisation du projet ALJL afin de respecter scrupuleusement tous les d\u00e9lais et toutes les exigences.<\/p>\n

La FAE est reconnaissante envers la Fondation Trillium de l'Ontario qui a toujours cru en ce projet\u2009; son financement nous a aid\u00e9s \u00e0 faire de cette vision une r\u00e9alit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Enfin, la FAE souhaite remercier et rendre hommage \u00e0 Darlene Whitecalf des Chippewas de la Thames. Bien que Darlene ne soit plus parmi nous, nous nous souviendrons toujours d'elle pour son amour et sa d\u00e9termination envers sa communaut\u00e9. Le projet Aliments locaux par des jeunes locaux a inspir\u00e9 le d\u00e9veloppement d'un syst\u00e8me alimentaire local dirig\u00e9 par des \u00e9l\u00e8ves dans sa communaut\u00e9, la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un guide sur la souverainet\u00e9 alimentaire dont d'autres jeunes peuvent s'inspirer et l'expansion du travail sur l'\u00e9ducation \u00e0 la terre \u00e0 la FAE. The LHF is a national, indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

La FAE dispose de plus de 25 expositions accessibles au public et travaille \u00e0 rendre ses autres expositions disponibles en ligne.
