(Ottawa, ON) 15 octobre 2021<\/strong> – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is pleased to receive a $20,000 grant from the Bell Let\u2019s Talk Community Fund to support the development of an online training session for those providing mental health services to Indigenous Survivors.<\/p>\n

The Bell Let\u2019s Talk Community Fund grant will support the LHF in its efforts to provide front-line workers who work with Indigenous Peoples the basics of Indigenous history along with highlights about trauma therapy that complement Indigenous spiritual ways of healing. The LHF will also develop On-the-Land Cultural Workshops and videos to add to a collection of mental health resources across Canada as part of a toolkit that will be developed in Ottawa. This toolkit will be distributed across Canada to more than 600 First Nations, Inuit communities and Metis settlements, listing resources for every province and territory with online cultural supports available to Survivors and intergenerational Survivors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe LHF is so thankful for the Bell Let\u2019s Talk Community Fund grant because now more than ever, Indigenous Peoples need support from the triggers from each new recovery of children\u2019s remains outside of Residential Schools, and this grant will go a long way to support meaningful healing and wellness for Indigenous Peoples,\u201d said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel.<\/p>\n

Ce projet contribuera de mani\u00e8re significative au renforcement des capacit\u00e9s de la communaut\u00e9 puisqu'il propose une session de formation des formateurs \u00e0 la prise en compte des traumatismes pour les personnes qui travaillent avec des centaines d'autochtones. Ce projet aidera par la suite des milliers de peuples autochtones qui ont acc\u00e8s aux services fournis par ces formateurs. Les formateurs peuvent partager le mat\u00e9riel avec d'autres prestataires de services et l'adapter aux besoins sp\u00e9cifiques des peuples autochtones de la r\u00e9gion afin de le rendre plus adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la culture et plus significatif pour les clients autochtones.<\/p>\n

\u201cBell Let\u2019s Talk is pleased to support the Legacy of Hope Foundation\u2019s mental health training to support Indigenous Survivors,\u201d said Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let\u2019s Talk. \u201cThe Bell Let\u2019s Talk Community Fund provides grants to mental health organizations in communities throughout the country, including those working to expand access to mental health care to Indigenous Peoples who need support in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bell Let\u2019s Talk promotes Canadian mental health with national awareness and anti-stigma campaigns like Bell Let\u2019s Talk Day and significant Bell funding of community care and access, research and workplace leadership initiatives throughout the country. The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The LHF has 25 exhibitions that are available for loan for free. Our recent exhibition, Escaping Residential Schools: Running for their Lives, is now available through an animated virtual video, along with the Survivors\u2019 Oral Testimonies. The exhibition examines the experience of Survivors of the Residential School System and raises awareness on the impacts it has on our communities. La LHF propose \u00e9galement des programmes de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e et pour les adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activit\u00e9s, des formations et des ateliers, et des balados, tous visant \u00e0 \u00e9duquer les Canadiens sur l'histoire autochtone et l'histoire commune des pensionnats et des externats, la rafle des ann\u00e9es 60 et les liens vers les taux \u00e9lev\u00e9s de femmes et de filles autochtones disparues et assassin\u00e9es, etc. La LHF s'efforce de d\u00e9velopper l'empathie et la compr\u00e9hension afin d'\u00e9liminer le racisme et la discrimination.
