(Ottawa, ON) September 30, 2021\u2013 The Legacy of Hope Foundation honours and acknowledges Silver Icing for their extremely generous donation of over $100,000. This donation will help to support education about Indigenous history and support Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Silver Icing is an online fashion lifestyle brand based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. When the news about the 215 unmarked children\u2019s graves at the former Kamloops Residential School site were found, it caused Silver Icing to create meaningful dialogue with their team. They realized the importance and deep need for acknowledging the trauma that Indigenous Peoples across Canada have faced and wanted to do something to help. They knew that they had to play a part in bringing awareness to Canadians, about the true history and mobilized to develop the Forget-Me-Not Tee Fundraiser. For this fundraiser, Silver Icing did research and chose to give 100% of the net proceeds to the Legacy of Hope Foundation, to ensure that the work of education, creating awareness and understanding about the Residential School System could be widely supported.<\/p>\n

The orange t-shirts were in part designed by Silver Icing head office team members Tonia Lenk, Tsimshian artist, and Allison McLeod\u2019s father, Chief Harvey McLeod of the Upper Nicola Band from the Sylix Okanogan Nation. The McLeod\u2019s have a close connection to these horrific events, since Chief McLeod attended the Residential School in Kamloops, where the 215 children were found. In just a couple months of selling the stylized and designed orange t-shirts, Silver Icing raised $114,980.32.<\/p>\n

\u201cImmediately after launch, the demand for these tees was clear; subsequently causing a sellout and restock four additional times. The majority of the donation amount was raised within the first 72hours and we were in complete awe of our community and how they showed up to support this incredibly important initiative.\u201d Christina Marcano, Silver Icing Founder & CEO<\/p>\n

The money raised will go to the development and dissemination of K-12 curriculum within schools across Canada so that future generations can learn about the impacts that Residential Schools have had on Survivors, their descendants, and those who never made it home, and to ensure that we create a brighter tomorrow for future generations. \u201cWe are moved beyond words, and could not possibly thank Silver Icing enough for what they have done. We will be able to fund initiatives for a full year as a result of their fund-raising and this will have a huge and positive impact on Canadians and Survivors,\u201d said Teresa Edwards, ED and Legal Counsel for the LHF. She continued, \u201cAt a time when our hearts are breaking for the children and their families and communities, Silver Icing, has given us hope in humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

La FAE utilisera \u00e9galement ce don pour \u00e9laborer et offrir des ateliers de revitalisation culturelle en ligne et en personne aux Survivants et Survivantes et aux Survivants et Survivantes interg\u00e9n\u00e9rationnels qui ont perdu et endur\u00e9 tant de choses dans les pensionnats.<\/p>\n

Les pensionnats indiens ont eu un impact n\u00e9faste sur les populations autochtones du Canada, d\u00e8s leur ouverture en 1828 jusqu'\u00e0 la fermeture du dernier pensionnat en 1997, et leurs cons\u00e9quences les poursuivent encore aujourd\u2019hui. La gu\u00e9rison des traumatismes subis par les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations pass\u00e9es et qui continuent d'affecter les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations actuelles de communaut\u00e9s autochtones et de Survivants et Survivantes, ainsi que la lutte contre le racisme et l'injustice, sont au c\u0153ur des efforts de la FAE.<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and reconciliation in Canada for over 20 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

La FAE dispose de plus de 20 expositions accessibles au public et travaille \u00e0 rendre ses autres expositions disponibles en ligne. La Fondation poss\u00e8de \u00e9galement des programmes d'enseignement de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e et pour les adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activit\u00e9s visant \u00e0 sensibiliser les Canadiens \u00e0 l'histoire autochtone et \u00e0 l'histoire commune des pensionnats et des externats, de la Rafle des ann\u00e9es 60, des femmes et des filles autochtones disparues ou assassin\u00e9es et autres actes coloniaux d\u2019oppression. La FAE travaille \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper l'empathie et la compr\u00e9hension afin d'\u00e9liminer le racisme envers les peuples autochtones du Canada et promouvoir la R\u00e9conciliation.<\/p>\n
