(Ottawa, ON) 28 septembre 2021<\/strong> \u2013 The LHF is proud to announce the release of the eleventh and last podcast episode in our new series called Voices from the Land: Indigenous Peoples Talk Language Revitalization. Today\u2019s entry is with Mike Kanentakeron Mitchell, a Mohawk from Akwesasne and long-time political leader and champion for Mohawk language, culture, and sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Mike Mitchell is a fluent speaker of Mohawk, raised in the language and culture. He attributes this education as providing the values and inner strengths needed to endure hardships and be successful in life. In this interview, he talks about his long career in politics and leadership in his home community and how language and cultural revitalization has been an integral part of the community\u2019s overall pursuit of its governance, education, policing, and justice goals.

Connecting language and culture to Indigenous sovereignty and well-being, Mike Mitchell helps us conclude this series with a spirited reminder that the goal of language revitalization is critical in-and-of itself, but it is also part of a larger pursuit of Indigenous wholeness, well-being, and sovereignty. The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation for 20 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing impacts of the Residential and Day School System, Sixties Scoop, and other colonial acts of oppression on generations of Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities in order to promote healing and to address racism. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n
