The Legacy of Hope Foundation Presents – Roots & Hoots \u00c9pisode 20: Mettant en vedette<\/em> Theland Kicknosway<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>

(Ottawa, ON) 20 juillet 2021 <\/strong>-<\/strong> On this week\u2019s episode of Roots & Hoots<\/em>, notre h\u00f4te, Gordon Spence, est rejoint par Theland Kicknosway. Theland est un jeune autochtone qui utilise sa voix pour mettre en valeur sa culture. Theland est \u00e9galement un chanteur traditionnel, un batteur, un danseur et un influenceur des m\u00e9dias sociaux. Appartenant au clan du loup des Pottawatomi et de la nation crie, et membre du territoire de Walpole Island Bkejwanong, Theland, 14 ans, est devenu en 2018 le plus jeune laur\u00e9at Indspire, au nom de la culture, du patrimoine et de la spiritualit\u00e9. Pour \u00e7a Roots & Hoots<\/em> \u00e9pisode, Theland s'assoit avec Gordon pour discuter de ses d\u00e9buts, ainsi que de ses plans pour l'avenir alors qu'il se lance dans sa course \u00e0 v\u00e9lo annuelle pour les femmes, les filles et les personnes bispirituelles disparues et assassin\u00e9es (MMIWG2S).<\/p>\n

A tout juste 18 ans, Theland en est d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 ses 7e<\/sup> annual bike and run journey to raise awareness about the violence perpetrated against MMIWG2S, and for their children who are left behind. Theland\u2019s awareness mission started when he was 9, and he asked his mother, \u201cWhat happens to the children of the missing and murdered Indigenous women, where do the children go?\u201d Unable to give him a sufficient answer, Theland\u2019s mother contacted his Aunt Brigitte for more insight. Bridget informed Theland how incredibly difficult it was for the children left behind due to the loss of a loved one. Upon hearing this, Theland felt an intense calling to do something for those children. Once again, he turned to his Aunt Bridget, who told him that he should keeping moving forward and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Taking this advice to heart, Theland has done just that, with this year\u2019s journey taking Theland and his team from Manitoba to Ontario.<\/p>\n

En dehors de son voyage annuel de v\u00e9lo et de course, Theland est une personne aux multiples facettes et aux int\u00e9r\u00eats vari\u00e9s. Danseur et chanteur depuis son plus jeune \u00e2ge, il a utilis\u00e9 la danse du cerceau pour partager la beaut\u00e9 de sa culture avec des gens de partout dans le monde. Bien qu'il ait grandi \u00e0 l'\u00e9cart de la culture autochtone dans le syst\u00e8me scolaire d'Ottawa, Theland s'est immerg\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement dans son patrimoine \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole secondaire en se joignant \u00e0 l'Assembl\u00e9e des sept g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, ce qui lui a permis de tisser des liens avec de jeunes autochtones partageant les m\u00eames id\u00e9es \u00e0 Ottawa.<\/p>\n

Regarding his philosophy towards life, Theland embraces living within the present but also sets aside moments to ponder the future, where one day, he hopes to pursue work within the educational field, perhaps as a teacher. Looking towards Canada\u2019s future, Theland believes Reconciliation needs to be centered as a collective effort, rather than something confined to individuals. As a young Indigenous activist, Theland maintains that the voices of youth should play a pivotal role within Reconciliation and constructing a vision of how Canada can achieve its full potential. In operation since 2000, the LHF is an Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and the existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential School System, Sixties Scoop, Day Schools and other colonial acts of oppression against Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) Peoples. The LHF has 22 exhibitions that are available for loan for free and are beginning to make them available online in a virtual video.<\/p>\n

La Fondation poss\u00e8de \u00e9galement des programmes d'enseignement de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e et pour les adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activit\u00e9s visant \u00e0 sensibiliser les Canadiens \u00e0 l'histoire autochtone et \u00e0 l'histoire commune des pensionnats et des externats, de la Rafle des ann\u00e9es 60, des femmes et des filles autochtones disparues ou assassin\u00e9es et autres actes coloniaux d\u2019oppression. La FAE travaille \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper l'empathie et la compr\u00e9hension afin d'\u00e9liminer le racisme et de favoriser la R\u00e9conciliation au Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
