(Ottawa, ON) 9 juillet 2021 <\/strong>- <\/strong>The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) wishes to offer their heartfelt congratulations to RoseAnne Archibald, who has just been elected as the first woman to serve as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). As the National Chief, Archibald will lead the AFN\u2019s advocacy work on behalf of the over 900,000 First Nations peoples it represents across Canada.<\/p>\n

RoseAnne est membre de la Nation Taykwa Tagamou (anciennement connue sous le nom de Premi\u00e8re Nation de New Post) et s'est consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation et \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense des peuples autochtones tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re r\u00e9volutionnaire. \u00c0 23 ans, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lue chef de la Nation Taykwa Tagamou (TTN), devenant ainsi la premi\u00e8re femme et la plus jeune personne \u00e0 occuper ce poste. Plus tard, elle est devenue la premi\u00e8re femme et la plus jeune personne \u00e9lue au poste de grand chef adjoint de la nation Nishnawbe-Aski (NAN). Mme Archibald a \u00e9galement dirig\u00e9 une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de conseil autochtone pendant neuf ans avant d'\u00eatre \u00e9lue premi\u00e8re femme \u00e0 occuper le poste de chef r\u00e9gional de l'Ontario.<\/p>\n

La FAE est heureuse qu'une femme ait enfin \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lue pour occuper ce r\u00f4le important. Avant la colonisation, de nombreuses femmes au sein des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s autochtones b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaient d'une repr\u00e9sentation politique importante. L'\u00e9lection d'une femme au poste de chef national est un pas important vers le r\u00e9tablissement des r\u00f4les et de la repr\u00e9sentation traditionnels des femmes en politique, ainsi que vers la d\u00e9colonisation des espaces politiques au Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoseAnne Archibald has long been committed to Indigenous advocacy, and the Legacy of Hope Foundation is certain she will continue her great work within her role as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.\u201d said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF. \u201cAt such a critical moment in time, especially with the ongoing and tragic discoveries of children\u2019s remains across the grounds of former Residential Schools, it will be important that we work together to hold the Government accountable for their horrific actions. We at the Legacy of Hope Foundation are looking forward to working with Archibald and Survivors to continue to advocate for Indigenous Peoples across Canada, help take a stand against colonial discrimination and oppression, and achieve equality for our Peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n

The LHF is pleased to be celebrating their 20-year anniversary as a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that promotes healing and Reconciliation in Canada. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential School System, Sixties Scoop, Day Schools and other colonial acts of oppression perpetrated against Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) Peoples. The LHF has 19 exhibitions that are available for loan for free.<\/p>\n

Notre derni\u00e8re exposition, Fuir les pensionnats indiens : fuir pour sauver nos vies<\/em>, is now available through an animated virtual video, along with the Survivors\u2019 Oral Testimonies. The exhibition examines the experience of Survivors of the Residential School System and raises awareness about the impacts it has had upon our communities. La LHF a \u00e9galement \u00e9labor\u00e9 un programme pour tous les \u00e2ges, de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e jusqu'aux adultes, ainsi que des guides d'activit\u00e9s, visant \u00e0 \u00e9duquer les Canadiens sur l'histoire autochtone et l'histoire commune des pensionnats indiens, le scoop des ann\u00e9es 60, les femmes et les filles autochtones disparues et assassin\u00e9es, et les \u00e9coles de jour.
