(Ottawa, ON) 9 f\u00e9vrier 2021<\/strong> \u2013 On this week\u2019s Roots & Hoots episode, the LHF host, Gordon Spence, is joined by special guest Manitok Thompson who discusses growing up near Coral Harbour, NWT and witnessing the transition from a traditional lifestyle to a modernized way of life, attending Day School and eventually becoming an educator herself.<\/p>\n

Manitok et Gordon discutent de son r\u00f4le d'\u00e9ducatrice et de politicienne \u00e0 l'Assembl\u00e9e l\u00e9gislative des Territoires du Nord-Ouest en 1995, o\u00f9 elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 ministre des Affaires communautaires et r\u00e9gionales jusqu'\u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation du Nunavut en 1999, lorsqu'elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9\u00e9lue \u00e0 l'Assembl\u00e9e l\u00e9gislative du Nunavut pour la circonscription des circonscriptions de Rankin Inlet South et de Whale Cove. Manitok a \u00e9t\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re femme \u00e0 occuper le poste de ministre du gouvernement du Nunavut. Elle a une excellente \u00e9thique de travail, qui lui a \u00e9t\u00e9 inculqu\u00e9e par des parents qui travaillent dur, ce qui est rest\u00e9 avec elle tout au long de sa vie et continue de r\u00e9sonner. Elle discute en d\u00e9tail du syst\u00e8me de d\u00e9nomination traditionnel suivi par son peuple, ce qui lui a valu de se faire appeler Manitok. En plus de son travail en tant que politicienne, Manitok est \u00e9galement pasteur pour un groupe chr\u00e9tien non confessionnel.<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for 20 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation. The LHF also has 19 exhibitions available for loan and can be shipped across Canada.
