The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls was launched in 2016, running for three years to produce its Final Report, released on Monday, June 3, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Le rapport identifie un processus g\u00e9nocidaire autonomis\u00e9 par les structures coloniales comme \u00e9tant \u00e0 l&#039;origine du nombre inqui\u00e9tant de femmes et de filles autochtones disparues et assassin\u00e9es au Canada ainsi que les Autochtones bispirituels, lesbiennes, gais, bisexuels,\u00a0<u>transgenres<\/u>, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual (2SLGBTQQIA) community. The contributing colonial structures that have contributed to the Genocide include the Indian Act, generations of Indigenous Peoples attending Residential Schools, children being apprehended in what is known as the Sixties Scoop, along with generations of oppression and racism and other human rights\u2019 violations experienced by Indigenous Peoples, particularly women.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, the Report points to a way forward for action, including many Calls for Justice. The authors of the report note that recommendations may be too mild a term. They urge their Calls for Justice to be seen as, \u201clegal imperatives \u2013 they are not optional.\u201d These calls touch upon many aspects of society. The LHF makes special note of the calls relating to Education. Under Calls for Educators, number 11.1, the authors, \u201ccall upon all elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions and education authorities to educate and provide awareness to the public about missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people, and about the issues and root causes of violence they experience.\u201d Under Calls for Justice for All Canadians, number 15.2, they call upon all Canadians to \u201cdecolonize by learning the true history of Canada and Indigenous history in your local area. Learn about and celebrate Indigenous Peoples\u2019 history, cultures, pride, and diversity, acknowledging the land you live on and its importance to local Indigenous communities, both historically and today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>L&#039;\u00e9ducation est un outil essentiel pour faire \u00e9voluer la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 vers des relations et des structures plus saines. En se sensibilisant et en s&#039;instruisant sur la colonisation pass\u00e9e et pr\u00e9sente, tous les Canadiens seront mieux inform\u00e9s pour prendre des mesures significatives qui s&#039;efforcent d&#039;\u00e9tablir des relations saines et respectueuses entre les peuples autochtones et non autochtones. C&#039;est pourquoi il est essentiel que les sujets et les cours sur les Premi\u00e8res Nations, les M\u00e9tis et les Inuits soient rendus obligatoires dans les \u00e9coles publiques de la maternelle \u00e0 la 12e ann\u00e9e.
