The Legacy of Hope Foundation Expresses Gratitude to the University of Ottawa’s Indigenous Law Student Governance<\/h2><\/h1><\/div>
<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

(Ottawa, ON) December 15, 2025 \u2013<\/strong> The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Indigenous Law Student Governance (ILSG) at the University of Ottawa for their remarkable generosity and community spirit. Through their annual Orange Shirt Day fundraiser, the ILSG raised an outstanding $23,770.25, donating 100% of the proceeds to support the LHF\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n

This meaningful contribution will help the Legacy of Hope Foundation continue producing educational materials and exhibitions that honour the rich histories, resilience, and lived experiences of Indigenous Peoples. These resources shed light on the long-lasting impacts of Residential and Day Schools, as well as the Child Welfare System, on Survivors and their descendants across seven generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Indigenous Law Student Governance at the University of Ottawa is proud to support the Legacy of Hope Foundation through our Orange Shirt fundraiser. We are grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful, local initiative that supports education, healing, and awareness within Indigenous communities. Giving back in this way reflects our commitment to uplifting our people and supporting organizations doing important work close to home,\u201d said Kayla Stevenson, Social & Events Coordinator, ILSG.<\/p>\n

Their generosity reflects a powerful commitment to truth, justice, and the ongoing work of Reconciliation. This gift not only strengthens our ability to share Survivors\u2019 stories\u2014it reminds us that the next generation of leaders is stepping forward with courage, hope, and heart. We are grateful for this partnership and inspired by the future these students are helping to build,\u201d said Teresa Edwards, LHF Executive Director & Legal Counsel.<\/p>\n

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 25 years. The LHF\u2019s goal is to educate Canadians about the history and existing impacts on generations of Indigenous Peoples caused by their experiences as children living through Residential and\/or Day School, or within the Child Welfare System. We do this to address ongoing discrimination and injustice to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The LHF has more than 30 educational exhibitions that inform people about Indigenous history through art and other media that are free to borrow, and some exhibitions are available online. LHF also has curricula for K-12 for teachers and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Research, Communication materials, and Podcasts, Workshops, and Training for businesses, all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples. We also offer Cultural Reclamation Workshops, share Best Practices about Language Revitalization and Food Sovereignty, etc., along with other tools to support hope and healing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
