Aaliyah is from Carry the Kettle First Nation with ties to George Gordon First Nation, both in Treaty 4 Territory. Aaliyah is a Cree language speaker and currently enrolled in studies to become a Cree language teacher.

Lydia Sunchild – Total Physical Response Method

Lydia from Thunderchild First Nation in Treaty 6 Territory. Lydia has been a teacher for eight years, primarily in First Nations schools. Recently, Lydia received a Master’s in Education Administration with the University of Saskatchewan, in order to advocate for Cree language revitalization outside the classroom.

Victoria Bomberry – Language Nests

Victoria is Mohawk, Bear Clan from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Victoria became an intermediate second language speaker before her son was born and this, along with time at the Language Nest, helped in having Kanien’kéha/Mohawk as her son’s first language.

Kawennakon Bonnie Whitlow is a member of the Mohawk Nation and is Bear Clan. Kawennakon is the Indigenous Special Projects Officer at Wilfrid Laurier University Brantford Campus and is a Kanien’kéha/Mohawk language teacher.

Dr. Tricia Logan – Master Apprentice Method

Tricia’s family is originally from Lebret, Saskatchewan and the Qu’Appelle Valley. She is an adult learner of the Michif language and came to Michif through working with Residential School Survivors. Tricia is a Métis scholar with more than 20 years of experience working with Indigenous communities in Canada. She is currently cross-appointed as an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and as the interim Academic Director of the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre at UBC.

Simona Arnatsiaq – Cultural Transmission in Indigenous Language Translation

Simona was born on the land near Igloolik, Nunavut. Simona lives in Ottawa, and travels extensively to the Canadian Arctic and internationally for her work in translation services for the Inuktitut language. Simona is an advocate for Inuit, especially Inuit women.

Indigenous Suffragan Bishop Larry Beardy – On the Land Language Learning

The Right Reverend Doctor Isaiah Larry Beardy is from the Tataskweyak Cree Nation, also known as Split Lake in Northern Manitoba. He is a Reverend of the Anglican Church of Split Lake and the Indigenous Suffragan Bishop of two Indigenous Spiritual Ministries. Reverend Beardy is a Survivor of the Indian Residential Schools System. He is a former Chief and teacher and continues to lead on the land – language and culture learning camps, for youth and families in his community.
