The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful to True North Aid for their generous donation and support

(Ottawa, ON) October 28, 2021– The Legacy of Hope Foundation is grateful to the Canadian charity True North Aid for their generous donation of $15,000 to the LHF to support efforts in developing educational resources on Canada’s true history for future generations.

True North Aid is a Canadian charity that is dedicated to serving and supporting Northern Indigenous communities through practical humanitarian support. True North Aid has eight foundational stones of support, through which donations can be funneled. These include Self- Determination, Reconciliation, Water, Food, Health, Housing, Hope and Education. Above all, True North Aid believes that self-governance and self-determination are key factors to closing the poverty gap felt in Indigenous communities, which is why their donations and efforts are linked directly to their eight foundational stones of support. The donation and support of True North Aid will ensure that the LHF can continue its work in fostering Reconciliation.

The LHF has been in operation for more than 21 years as a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to address racism and discrimination. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School System, Sixties Scoop, and other colonial acts of oppression on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Peoples.

The LHF has 25 exhibitions that are available for loan for free. Our recent exhibition, Escaping Residential Schools: Running for their Lives, is now available through an animated virtual video, along with the Survivors’ Oral Testimonies. The exhibition examines the experience of Survivors of the Residential School System and raises awareness on the impacts it has on our communities. To watch the video, please visit: https://legacyofhope.ca/project/escapingrs/ The LHF is working on making its other exhibitions also available online.

The LHF also has curriculum from K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Training and Workshops, and Podcasts all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and the links to issues such as the high rates of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism and discrimination in Canada.
