Job Description: Donations Officer

Type: Full-time, Term Position – (5 months with possibility of extension)

Term: November 8, 2021 – March 31, 2022

Salary: $35,000 -$45,000 per year, depending on experience (pro-rated over 5 months)

Closing Date: November 4, 2021 – 5:00 p.m.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote

hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.

The LHF has more than 25 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow and is working on making exhibitions available on line. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, Podcasts, all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples.

Working in partnership with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, communities, and organizations, and with governmental agencies, foundations, educational institutions, and others across the country to develop educational materials, commemoration projects, and research initiatives that support our mission.

Position Summary: Accepts donations and keeps records on incoming donations. This position works closely with all members of the LHF Team; and with the Finance Department for daily balancing, reconciliation and reporting of donations, creation of tax receipts, as well as assist with our annual audit.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Daily processing and reconciliation of donations from all sources. Ensure that all gift transactions and donations are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • To ensure that all processes relating to incoming donations (telephone, web, cheque & cash donations) are in line with LHF policies
  • Coordination of the tax receipt process on a daily and ongoing basis, with Finance and other LHF Team members, as appropriate
  • Assist donors with accounting and receipting issues, by phone and email
  • Assist other staff members with enquiries or issues relating to processing or donations
  • Maintain and update donation database, as required
  • Assist Finance with the provision of back-up/support for the annual audit
  • Conduct work activities safely and securely by following our HR policies
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisor
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work; complies with privacy policies,
  • Safeguard company property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of theft, or fraud
  • Corporate Donations/Sponsorships, develop and build relationships with community businesses, develop and manage all direct mail fundraising programs as required, maintain donor recognition database
  • Ensure the foundation is in compliance with CRA rules
  • Perform other related activities as necessary or as assigned
