The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) Presents Episode 8 of Voices from the Land: Indigenous Peoples Talk Language Revitalization – an 11-episode podcast series on Indigenous Language Revitalization
(Ottawa, ON) August 17, 2021 – The LHF is proud to announce the release of the eighth podcast episode in our new series called, Voices from the Land: Indigenous Peoples Talk Language Revitalization. Today’s talk is with Michele K. Johnson, a member of the Okanagan Indian Band, who teaches N̓syilxčn̓, a Salish language.
Michele K. Johnson has a PhD in Indigenous language revitalization from the University of British Columbia. She uses her knowledge and experience to teach N̓syilxčn̓ in a ‘language house’ model. In this interview, Michele unpacks a lot of the practical strategies that have proven successful in her experiences both learning and teaching her language. Teachers looking to learn more about assessment in Indigenous language learning, the importance of curriculum, and carrying out community Indigenous language programs will find this interview very interesting.
“So many practical recommendations tested and proven in an Indigenous community language program make this interview another great and rewarding listen in our series for Indigenous language teachers,” said LHF’s Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel, Teresa Edwards.
