The Legacy of Hope Foundation Joins the Fairbairn House Heritage Centre for an online Lecture on the Impacts of Residential Schools on Indigenous Peoples
(Ottawa, ON May 10, 2021) The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is pleased to announce an online event hosted by the Fairbairn House Heritage Centre on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom featuring LHF Executive Director and In- House Legal Counsel, Teresa Edwards.
The online lecture, “Where are the Children? Healing the Impacts of Residential Schools,” will introduce the themes that are explored in the LHF’s Where are the Children? travelling exhibition, which will be on display at the Fairbairn Heritage House starting this May until October 2021 located in Wakefield, Quebec.
“We are excited about this new relationship for a number of reasons, and more so, that it is an act of Reconciliation in itself,” said Teresa Edwards. “By including and adding the rich and vast Indigenous history of this region to their collection of Settler historical pieces, more Canadians will learn about, empathize and support ongoing injustices First Peoples of this land continue to experience. Our shared history is not taught in schools and has often excluded from many heritage sites. To bring this exhibition to Fairbairn Heritage House and to discuss these issue is a great step.”
The Where are the Children? is the first of its kind in Canada about the impacts of Residential Schools and spans over 125 photographs and text panels that tells the story of more than 7 generations of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and was first launched back in 2001. The travel version that is on display at the Fairbairn House provides photographs that will be displayed on a monitor and was launched in 2018. If you would like to borrow this exhibition, or any of our exhibitions from our collection, please email info@legacyofhope.ca.
