The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) Presents – Voices from the Land: Indigenous Peoples Talk Language Revitalization – an 11-episode podcast series on Indigenous Language Revitalization

(Ottawa, ON) May 5, 2021 – The LHF is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative called, Voices from the Land: Indigenous Peoples Talk Language Revitalization. Beginning today, there will be 11 podcast episodes released over the next several weeks. Each episode is an interview with someone doing important work in Indigenous language revitalization.

“Language loss was and continues to be a source of tremendous harm for Indigenous Peoples. We hope that by sharing these interviews with these incredible people doing great work on language revitalization, we can help in the important work of language revitalization and healing from colonial acts of oppression.” said LHF’s Executive Director and In- House Legal Counsel, Teresa Edwards.

Everyone interviewed for this project was someone with a tremendous amount of experience teaching an Indigenous language, or was involved in innovative and successful Indigenous language teaching initiatives, or had a wealth of knowledge and wisdom on their Indigenous language and could speak to the value and importance of protecting and promoting their Indigenous languages. The primary audience for these podcasts are people teaching Indigenous languages, but the content, the many voices, and their insights on language practice, policy, and futures make these interviews relevant, engaging, and educational beyond the original scope. We at the LHF are very grateful for the time and knowledge shared with us. We hope that you, the listener, will get as much out of these interviewees as we did.
