Season’s Greetings from the Legacy of Hope Foundation
(Ottawa, ON) December 21, 2020 – As 2020 ends, the Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) and all its Staff, are wishing everyone a happy holiday and a healthy New Year!
December 21st is the day we celebrate the Winter Solstice. It’s when the sun is farthest from the equator and it is the darkest and shortest day of the year. These seasonal events hold great importance for many cultures, including Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Peoples. We note the changing of the seasons and acknowledge the cycles, and celebrate through ceremony. With the passing of Winter Solstice, we celebrate the rising of the sun in the noon sky as we see the sun strengthening once more, and it symbolizes the return of the warm season and that new opportunities for growth are on the horizon.
Since many Settlers have brought new traditions to Turtle Island that have similar festivities, it is the perfect time of the year for us all to reflect on the past, and look forward to the “new sun” of the next season, and recharge for the future. It is a time to be grateful for all the past blessings, while learning from the hardships so that we can continue to grow in the future.
The Legacy of Hope Foundation would also like to acknowledge their Board Members and give them their warmest gratitude for all their time and their contribution over this past year.
