The Workshop Facilitator provides leadership within the program through high quality, dynamic workshop facilitation.

The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation. Part of what we do is accomplished through educational programming and community outreach. 

The Legacy of Hope Foundation is working with three Indigenous-led community organizations who have a connection with Indigenous youth, who want to learn about and design their own land-based program while connecting with others who are doing the same!  The focus for this project is centred around Indigenous youth and food sovereignty. Workshops will include expert speakers and support throughout as well as collaborative sessions to create an individualized plan book for each participant organization. organizations in recognition of the time commitment and to support participation in the program.

This project, called Seeds: A virtual, collaborative workshop series on Indigenous Food Sovereignty, was created to explore how Indigenous community organizations can facilitate and nurture a positive relationship to land and waters for Residential School Survivors, Sixties Scoop Survivors, and their families. 

Over a series of workshops, facilitated by the Legacy of Hope, our team will work with staff from three Indigenous-led community organizations to offer organization/community-specific planning and dreaming for their food sovereignty programs. We will meet as a whole group to engage in facilitated conversations about food sovereignty, growing food, foraging, harvesting and related topics, shared planning, and intention setting. There will also be opportunities to break out into smaller groups to offer more personalized, organization and community-specific program development.  

The workshops will take place twice a month on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 pm EST, starting on Thursday, February 17, 2022 and running until October 28, 2022

We are in search of a virtual workshop facilitator for the Seeds: A virtual, collaborative workshop series on Indigenous Food Sovereignty program.

As the Facilitator, you will be responsible for facilitating the twice monthly workshop series for representatives from three Indigenous community organizations who are participating in the program. These sessions will be delivered online. The Facilitator will also be tasked with other duties listed below.

  • Assisting in writing up workshop plans, and agendas.
  • Support the LHF staff co-facilitators in how to run the workshops.
  • Signing up participants.
  • Keeping registers of participants.
  • Notify Project Lead of any problems or concerns you have about participants.
  • Disseminate evaluation forms to workshop participants
  • Help collect and process evaluation data from workshop participants

Communications

  • Assisting with identifying updates for participants and to circulate via our social media channels.
  • Circulate information about up-coming workshops and current programmes of work to participants.

Administration

  • Maintain solid, professional relationships with partners.
  • Assist in completing workshop feedback forms. Keep appropriate records for monitoring purposes.

Other

  • Report writing and minute taking as required.
  • To undertake other work as appropriate to deliver the LHF’s Objectives.

Past Work/Volunteer Experience with Similar Organizations

  • Some work or volunteer experience with Indigenous organizations, human rights organizations, and/or with Indigenous governments and/or government agencies.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Required education: Post-Secondary Diploma/Certificate (or equivalent experience)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, their cultures, histories, and traditions, including the history of Residential Schools and its existing impacts on Survivors and their families;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of key social justice issues impacting Indigenous Peoples.
