The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is Grateful to Marda Loop Brewing’s Fundraising Efforts
(Ottawa, ON) November 17, 2021— The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is grateful for Marda Loop Brewing’s generous donation. Their fundraising initiative will help the LHF continue to develop educational resources, and furthering awareness on the impacts of the Residential School System on 7 generations of Indigenous Peoples.
Brewery owner, Mike de Jonge, took an interest into the art of beer brewery, and started by making his own beer in his basement. He then decided he wanted to expand his passion and bring his quality craft beer to the greater community. Today, the Marda Loop Brewing Company in Calgary Alberta, provides a place for people to come together “over a pint.” Much like the LHF, Marda Loop Brewing Company supports a strong sense of community.
We are so grateful to Mr. de Jonge and the Marda Loop Brewing Company for their generous donation,” said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF. “We appreciate how an idea can take root and grow into reality. The LHF started with a Survivor’s dream of building a charity and here we are, 21 years later. Thank you Marda Loop for your donation which will allow us to continue to serve Survivors and to educate all Canadians so as to foster Reconciliation,” she continued.
The LHF is a national, indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.
The LHF has more than 25 educational exhibitions that promote awareness of Indigenous history that are free to borrow and is working on making exhibitions available online. LHF also has curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, and Podcasts, all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism against Indigenous Peoples.
