The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) Acknowledges Chartwell Foundation for their donation
(Ottawa, ON) November 4, 2021 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) honours and acknowledges Chartwell Foundation for their donation. Chartwell Foundation’s generosity will help to promote the ongoing work of developing exhibitions and curriculum resources that educates Canadians about Indigenous history and to foster Reconciliation in Canada.
Chartwell is the largest provider of seniors’ housing in Canada. They are a retirement residence with independent and assistive living options, with over 200 locations across Canada. Founded in 2003, their mission is to provide a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life experience for seniors, and to overall make people’s lives better. They strive to provide peace of mind for their residents, and to attract employees who care about the residents’ lives. Chartwell is recognized as an organization with exceptional staff that are devoted to their work.
“We commend Chartwell Foundation and are immensely grateful to them for their contribution to the LHF,” says Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel. She continued, “The support of Chartwell Foundation helps to ensure that we can keep producing educational resources that are building greater awareness about the lives of Indigenous Peoples across Canada in a way that promotes healing and understanding for all Canadians.”
The LHF is a national, indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 21 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to the equity, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.
LHF also has curriculum from K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Workshops and Training, and Podcasts aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and the links to issues such as the high rates of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism and foster Reconciliation in Canada.
