(Ottawa, ON) October 8, 2021– The Legacy of Hope Foundation is pleased to announce that Rural Roots Brewing Company donated the proceeds of 2 of their craft beers, to the LHF. This donation is to support Survivors of Residential Schools, as well as to teach communities across Canada, about our shared past and present.

Rural Roots Brewing Company is based out of Elmira, Ontario. The company is passionate about community, and with the recent uncovering’s of children’s graves, as well as learning more about the insidious nature of many Residential Schools, Rural Roots Brewing Company decided that for the month of June, they would fundraise to support action towards a better future for all. “We are about people, we are about community, and our community came together to help support this incredibly valuable cause. We truly hope this small donation can be used to help those that desperately need help,” said Roger Lichti, founder of Rural Roots Brewing Company. The fundraiser increased conversations on-line and in-person around Reconciliation. Conversations are how information is shared and stored in communities, and the voice of Indigenous Peoples across Canada are an integral part of these communities. By truly learning and understanding the actions of the past, we can work towards a better future, ultimately building stronger communities.

The LHF has been in operation for more than 20-years as a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential School System, Sixties Scoop, Day Schools and other colonial acts of oppression on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) Peoples.

The LHF has 25 exhibitions that are available for loan for free. Our recent exhibition, Escaping Residential Schools: Running for their Lives, is now available through an animated virtual video, along with the Survivors’ Oral Testimonies. The exhibition examines the experience of Survivors of the Residential School System and raises awareness on the impacts it has on our communities. The LHF also has curriculum from K-12 and for adults, along with Activity Guides, Training and Workshops all aimed at educating Canadians about Indigenous history and the shared history of Residential and Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, youth and Reconciliation, allyship, etc. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism and discrimination in Canada.
