The Legacy of Hope Foundation Acknowledges and Honours the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario
(Ottawa, ON) May 27, 2021– The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) acknowledges and honours the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) for their generous donation to support Reconciliation. This $5,000 donation demonstrates their strong commitment to the ongoing work of the LHF in educating and raising awareness about the history and impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and the subsequent Sixties Scoop and the effects that they continue to have on Indigenous Peoples. These funds will support the resources which integrate more Indigenous education into the curriculum to affect long-term change in the relationships among Indigenous and all Canadians.
The ETFO’s Equity Statement, “to work with others to create schools, communities and a society free from all forms of individual and systemic discrimination, is very much in line with the LHF’s vision,” said Teresa Edwards, Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel at the LHF. “We thank them for their continued efforts and the resources they provide for both students and teachers and for this generous donation, which allows us to continue to develop materials to keep educating and reaching more people.
The LHF is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that has been working to promote healing and Reconciliation in Canada for over 20 years. The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential and Day School Systems and subsequent Sixties Scoop on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation. The LHF works to develop empathy and understanding so as to eliminate racism and foster Reconciliation in Canada.
