(Ottawa, ON) September 2, 2020 – The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is encouraged to see that the Federal Government has decided to designate two Residential Schools as national monuments. Declaring Portage La Prairie Indian Residential School in Manitoba along with Shubenacadie Indian Residential School in Nova Scotia as historic sites. The monuments will recognize a part of Canada’s dark history and the inter-generational impacts on Indigenous Peoples that has often been overlooked through these monuments.

“One of my dreams is to have the history of Residential Schools and Survivor Testimonies as part of a mandatory curriculum in every classroom in Canada. I believe that the mandate of the LHF is bringing us closer to achieving that dream, one jurisdiction at a time,” said Ejinagosi (Richard) Kistabish, President of the LHF Board of Directors.
