Project Sea Star – Anne Nation Organizes Fundraiser on behalf of the Legacy of Hope Foundation

(Ottawa, ON) July 31, 2020 – With great gratitude, the Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) acknowledges Anne Nation for launching the project Sea Star. Anne Nation is a fandom group of the TV series Anne with an E, that values friendships, education, inspiration, and opportunity.

“In season three, Anne With an E introduced a Residential School storyline, educating many people around the world on a topic to which they had previously had no exposure. Anne taught us to take action to help others, so as a fandom community, Anne Nation has decided to launch this project to donate money to the LHF,” said organizers. “Thank you for all that you are doing for us. It is so heartwarming to know that Canadians support the progress for Reconciliation and that you are all allies. We will be able to print our curriculum with these funds which will help more teachers and facilitators across Canada to learn about the real history of Indigenous Peoples in order to foster Reconciliation,” stated LHF Executive Director and In-House Legal Counsel, Teresa Edwards.

LHF is grateful to all of the educators supporting this project and would like to offer this resource to them in return for all of their help.

Ravens: Messengers of Change is a resource designed to create awareness and action for Reconciliation in Canada. This resource includes an activity, that can be used with participants as young as elementary students, up to, and including, adults. It can be a tool for the classrooms in school settings, community groups, offices, and with anyone who shares a desire to learn more and pursue thoughtful action towards achieving Reconciliation.

The LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and existing intergenerational impacts of the Residential School System, Sixties Scoop, Day Schools and other colonial acts of oppression on Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Survivors, their descendants, and their communities in order to promote healing and to address racism. The LHF works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustices in order to contribute to the equality, dignity, and respectful treatment of Indigenous Peoples and to foster Reconciliation.
